Do I Need a FENSA Certificate for New Windows and Doors?
Replacing windows and external doors counts as building work, so it has to comply with Building Regulations. A FENSA certificate is the simplest way to prove that it does, and it is the paperwork a buyer's solicitor will ask about when you sell.
What is FENSA?
FENSA is a government-authorised scheme that lets registered installers self-certify that their window and door replacements meet Building Regulations, without you having to involve your local council's building control.
Why it matters
Building Regulations cover things like energy efficiency, ventilation and safety glazing. When the work is certified, you receive a certificate confirming it complies.
If you later sell your home, the buyer's solicitor will usually ask for it. Without it, you may need to arrange extra checks or indemnity cover, which can cost time and money.
Do I need one?
In general, yes: replacement windows and glazed external doors need to comply, and a FENSA certificate is the usual way to show it. The alternative is to apply to your local authority's building control, which usually takes longer and costs more.
If you are unsure about your situation, ask your installer or check with your local building control team.
How to check an installer
Ask for their FENSA registration number and check it on the FENSA website before work begins. K Highway Windows & Doors is FENSA registered (No. 43265), so your installation is certified and the paperwork is handled for you.
