What Affects the Cost of a Composite Door?
Two composite doors can look almost the same and still be priced very differently. Rather than quote a single figure that may not apply to your home, here is what actually drives the price, so you can compare quotes properly.
1. Door style and glass
A plain solid door sits at the simpler end. Doors with glazed panels, decorative glass, sidelights or a top light involve more components and more work, which adds to the price.
2. Size and frame
Standard single doors are the most straightforward. Wider openings, double doors, or doors with side and top panels need more material and careful fitting.
Because every opening is slightly different, a made-to-measure door gives a better fit than trying to adapt a standard size.
3. Colour and finish
Standard colours are usually the most economical. Two-tone finishes (a different colour inside and out) or special colours can cost more.
4. Locks and hardware
Handles, letterplates, knockers, hinges and cylinder locks all vary in quality and price. A good multi-point lock and a high-security cylinder are worth paying for on a front door.
5. Fitting and making good
A proper installation includes the survey, removing and disposing of the old door, fitting the new one and making good around it. Check that any quote you compare includes all of this, and that the installer is FENSA registered.
